There is a single vulture species residing in Montana, the turkey vulture.  It is easy to pass over these birds as they have somewhat unpleasing appearance, at first glance, and a more-or-less accurate reputation of eating rotting flesh and roadkill.  In fact, turkey vultures never kill for food and the cleanup job they do should engender appreciation more apprehension, although I admit to getting a bit nervous on a hike if I see several of these beauties circling above me.
